Walking through Torquay’s History

A sunny morning greeted nine Devon GOC members who met together at Babbacombe Down for a walk through history with a look at the people and places that made Torquay the place we see today with a visit to 19 blue plaque sites.

From Andrew Sachs who starred as Manuel in Fawlty Towers  to Peter Cook to Oscar Wilde all featured on our trip through time. Around half way on our tour the heavens opened as we arrived at Kents Cavern. Fortunately, the famous caves have an excellent cafe where we sheltered from the elements with a stop for lunch.

After our break, skies brightened and we continued onward to see another 11 plaque sites as we snaked down towards the town and our final destination, Torquay museum.

Thank you to all who came along
