Visit to Savill Garden Windsor Great Park

A dozen of us met at the Savill garden in Windsor Great park in a light drizzle.  The weather did not deter this group of hardy individuals (unlike annuals who do not always flourish in these conditions!) and we headed out into the verdant pastures - well not really pasture but ornamental little valleys and spring and autumn woodland, ponds, streams and little bridges. The whole Royal estate was as one would expect immaculately kept but because of the variety of shrubs plants and themed gardens the overall effect was stunning. A highlight at this time of the year is usually azaleas and rhododendrons but as the seasons have been ahead of them selves this year both varieties were beginning to come to the end of flowering. Nevertheless there were some brilliant shows and because of recent rain the green palette was extraordinary.

The walk through the gardens completed  we all enjoyed what was on offer in the Garden Cafe and after the meal some returned to the garden to continue their wanderings while others ventured out in the Great Park for a short walk enjoying its beauty and its serenity as there were few visitors around.

Thanks guys for joining me on the walk. Another enjoyable mid week adventure. If anyone else would like to lead a garden walk in the  Berkshire or Oxfordshire areas please have a go. If you need any help please do not hesitate to contact me.
