Sunday saw three generations of South Midlands Coordinators welcome GOC members old and new to Adlestrop Village Hall for coffee and pastries at 10:00, a walk at 11:00 and an excellent selection of very tasty home made cakes and tea after the walk. Alan Lamb the founder of the South Midlands Group, Mark Parker the coordinator for 10 years and the shiny new coordinator John Hambleton were on hand to ensure that everything went smoothly. Andrew Walker had created a collage of GOC magazines from days gone by, showing how the three coordinators and others had aged over the years!
28 of those present embarked on a 7 mile walk that paused by the famous Adlestrop sign and poem where John W patiently photographed the group, having ensured that the sign could be seen. The group walked through some lovely woodland and complied with the signs in a meadow full of wild flowers, sticking to the path to avoid disturbing the nesting skylarks. The coffee stop at Chastleton House allowed the walkers to rest in the sunshine and observe the house, dovecote and church.
We continued on through fields and lanes to Evenlode where all the houses are very grand. The lunch stop outside the parish church offered a choice of sunshine or shade. The return route to Adlestrop was via more beautiful Cotswold rolling landscape.
There was much lively conversation both on the walk and back in the village hall where, over 35 members, past and present with friends, relaxed over tea and cakes.
