Rambling Frome Vallis Vale, Somerset, 6th July 2025

Nine members did the five-mile circular walk from the centre of Frome.

The first part of the walk was close to the river taking us to an area known as Spring Gardens. From there, we walked over fields to Castle Lodge, near to the entrance to Orchardleigh Golf course. Having walked on a short section of the Radstock road , we entered a wooded area following the Mells river. After a brief walk through an industrial truck site, we stopped for lunch by the river. We then continued through Vallis Vale, before having a climb back into Frome and descending via Catherine Hill into the town where the monthly independent market was still busy. The weather was a mix of diffused sunshine, cloud and occasional very light drizzle.

Six of the walkers took refreshment at the River House Café, “Where they have been putting delicious things into mouths since 2014”!

Grateful thanks to Stephen for devising and leading this lovely walk in a lovely part of Somerset, much appreciated.
