Nine members began the 6.25 mile walk in the centre of the beautiful historic town of Crewkerne. We were joined by some North Somerset and Dorset members, some of whom had never visited the town before. They were pleasantly impressed with the beautiful, old architecture constructed from the local honey coloured Ham stone which gives the town its distinctive character.
Our first point of interest was Townsend Cemetery where we were able to glimpse the grave of the actress Linda Bellingham. We were soon walking out into the charming countryside surrounding the town where we were greeted by some stunning views despite the rainfall.
We stopped for coffee and an early lunch at St Martin’s Church, North Perrott. We sheltered in the church porch until the rain had stopped. Our walk continued through a beautiful landscape which some members said was reminiscent of a Capability Brown park. We walked on through Misterton village under the impressive viaduct. Our next part of the walk took us to Seaborough where we saw St. John’s church. We walked through some fields of maize and over the railway line where we saw a train on its way to Exeter. Finally we arrived at Michael’s home where we were served a most welcome cream tea.
Grateful thanks to Michael for devising and leading this lovely walk.
