Following a period of seemingly incessant rain, the clouds lifted and our merry band of adventurers were met by a cold but sunny day.
This 8 mile walk started from Mere in south west Wiltshire, climbed the hill behind the town to Mere castle (a hill fort) before setting off across field paths to Stourhead. Lunch was had in the forecourt of the Stourhead (NT garden & house) visitor reception. Following which, the route ascended White sheet hill which can best be described as an outpost of Salisbury plain on the north edge of the Blackmore vale. Fine views and pleasant hill top walking preceeded the drop back down to the start point.
Many thanks to the walk leader and to those who came along. GOC wouldn't be what it is without all of you.
