A small number of us made it to Mallorca at the beginning of May, rather fewer than the usual 20+. For most of us, it was our first adventure outside the UK since Covid and since leaving the EU and I left home with some trepidation. It all proved to be very straightforward; my Scottish Covid pass worked, I got my passport stamped in and out, I wore a mask as required on public transport, and I didn’t catch Covid.
Mallorca is very much open for holidaying, though still a bit quieter than usual. Our regular hotel was not completely full once the Mallorca 312 cycle race crowd had left. We enjoyed the usual hospitality, warm sunshine, good roads and a bit of rain. The wild flowers were very good.
The walkers, one still recovering from a bout of Covid, took things fairly steadily, exploring Palma and the area around Soller, including the historic narrow-gauge railway and the tram system. The most intrepid of the cyclists clocked up 510 miles and 7176 m of ascent.
The discount codes are valid for the rest of the season, and hopefully others will take advantage of them. There’s no need to be heroic – the hotel has a pool and a bar if you are feeling very lazy.
