Dorset Group 25 Aug 22: Exploring Canford Heath

We could have had baking heat, rain, or humidity but the weather was kinder to us as twenty members set off to explore Canford Heath. This attractive and much underused open space, almost surrounded by the Bournemouth conurbation, offers much diversity, so much so that even some local walkers saw parts of it they had not seen before. Open, colourful heath land with magnificent views south to the Purbecks, mixed in with ancient woodland provided the group with plenty of interest. Even our resident fungi expert found three rare specimens at our lunch stop, one of which has since been confirmed as a first recording in the UK. Tea and cakes were enjoyed by all at the end of the walk
