On a bright and breezy January morning our band of 18, including 4 ladies and 2 visitors from GOC Wales, squeezed into the popular car park at Lawson Clump for our stroll around Wareham Forest.
Leaving the picturesque forest clump we traversed Great Ovens Hill with an ancient pottery history to reach Morden Bog, one of the largest valley bog habitats in England. Circumventing the flooded bog we joined the sika trail deep into Wareham Forest passing Parsons Pleasure - a memorial to the forester who first drained the bog to allow species of tree to grow making the forest what it is today.
At the north end of the forest we reached the outskirts of Morden Park where we picnicked on lawns strewn with budding daffodils amongst the beehives. A stroll along the forest edge brought us back to Lawson Clump and a brisk return walk in the rain. We were rewarded by a sumptuous tea after the walk at Vue Plaisant House, our leader's home with his spectacular stained glass creations.
