Dorset Group 13Apr25: Lawrence of Arabia Circuit Via Clouds Hill and Moreton.

19 of us and 2 dogs started our walk looking at Cull-peppers Dish which is a sinkhole. The ‘Dish’ is about 90m in diameter and 40m deep and may have been named after the herbalist Nicholas Culpeper (1616-1654). Then we headed down the hill to Rimsmoor pond and on to Throop Heath where we all got soaked in a very heavy shower of rain and finally arriving at Laurence of Arabia’s Cottage at Clouds Hill. Then we proceeded to Moreton Ford,  crossing the river Frome and walked over the narrow foot bridge next to the ford and on to Moreton Village and arrived at Moreton Gardens for our lunch stop. After lunch headed back and made a detour to St Nicholas Church at Moreton, It is known for its thirteen windows engraved by the poet and artist Sir Laurence Whistler. T E Lawrence was buried in the separate churchyard. Then again over the River Frome and on to the Jubilee Trail and across Bryants Puddle Heath back to our cars.
