On a crisp dry morning we ascended the hill to join the Dorset Ridgeway, with extensive views of Abbotsbury below including St Catherine's Chapel and the Tythe barn (some of the remains of the Benedictine Abbey)
We continued towards the Hardy Monument glimpsed in the distance with views of Chesil Beach and Portland, stopping for a coffee break by an ancient stone circle.
On reaching the monument some stopped for a picnic lunch whilst others walked down to Portesham, passing a group of donkeys on the way.
After reassembling in the churchyard and passing Admiral Hardy's houseĀ we returned along the former railway line (with its residual engine sheds and platforms) for tea at our leader Andrew's house.
