Dorset Group 11 Sep 2022: Jurassic Coast: White Nothe Cliffs and Chaldon Herring.

We assembled at Chaldon Herring car park for a walk in respect and memory to our late Queen Elizabeth II also to celebrate our new King Charles III

9 of us started our walk up the long deep valley passing a flower pot man and some mushrooms in lovely autumn sunshine towards Daggers Gate near Durdle Door. After reaching Daggers Gate we headed west along the Jurassic cliff top passing Swyre Head, Bat’s Head, Middle Bottom and West Bottom also passing a sculpture on route. There were fantastic views of the Jurassic coast in both directions. At West Bottom we joined the South West Coast Path and headed in the direction of Ringstead Bay with great views of Portland. After reaching White Nothe Cottages we then walked out to the cliff top edge of White Nothe and sat on the grass to have our picnic lunch looking out to sea towards Portland and along the coast to Ringstead Bay. After lunch we continued along the coast path and then headed inland passing Sea Barn Farm. Walking up the track to Holworth we passed many ripe black berries which made a great dessert. When reaching the ridge at Owermoigne turning east along the ridge with great views inland passing the Five Mary’s to meet the road back to Chaldon Herring.  At the end of the walk all of us retired to the Red Lion Pub for much needed refreshments.
