Dorset Group 13 Nov 22: Purbeck Ridge: Creech Hill to Corfe Castle Circuit.

On a bright mild morning our group of 17 assembled for a Remembrance Day walk at Creek Hill car park. We started walking east along the Purbeck Ridge to the Grange Arch (which is a folly built in 1676-1747 by Denis Bond);  from here we admired the beautiful view through the arch down into the valley of Creech Grange House.

We continued our walk passing the Great Wood with its autumn colours crossing the Knowle Hill valley; stopping at 11am for a 2 minute silence to remember all those who have died in wars around the world. Reaching Corfe Castle we picniced on the grass ridge overlooking the castle and the Swanage Railway as steam trains passed.

We proceeded heading north to Norden Farm, then along the valley through the Kilwood Coppice and Meadows Nature Reserve onto East Creech hamlet passing the pretty village pond. Returning up the hill some of us climbed Creech Barrow Hill (which at 193 metres high is the highest point on the Dorset Heath and a distinctive landmark allowing 360 degree views across the Isle of Purbeck). After returning to our cars 12 of us went back for a delicious tea at our leader’s house.
