Devizes and Caen Locks, Wiltshire on 2nd November 2025

Six members started off from the Old Station site in Devizes on a bright autumnal morning. We headed out of town past St John’s Church, a location used in the iconic 1967 film version of Far From The Madding Crowd, starring Terence Stamp. Skirting the old park of Devizes castle, with views across to the escarpment of Salisbury Plain, we descended to the village of Poulshot. The final part of the walk took us along a section of the Kennet and Avon canal, gently climbing beside the famous Caen Hill Locks, one of the longest continuous flight of locks in the country.

Four of the party then finished the day in Weatherspoons.

(And, from members who enjoyed the walk, a big thanks to Steve for devising and leading, much appreciated.)
