Our latest adventure took nine Devon members along the famous Dawlish sea wall to Dawlish Warren and then back off thew normal tourist route to a wonderful vista of fine views that many members had not expected.
We all met outside the railway station for a walk that took us in a circular anti-clock wise direction of around 6 miles from the famous holiday town of Dawlish. The first part took us past the excellent sea wall that has just been new completed and upgraded after the winter storm of 2014 that washed away to pathway and railway track. happily, now rebuilt and fit for another 100 years. The upgrade included enhancements to the walkway, raising its height, and new pedestrian bridge and new seating areas created with parts of the wall that were saved after the storm. After 45 minutes we arrive at Dawlish Warren, a popular place for people to enjoy the beautiful beaches that Devon has to offer with plenty of entertainment for the whole family on their holidays.
After our lunch break we continued but this time inland along a path by a stream that took us to the back of the town, along a country lane that took us through a newly built housing estate and into fields that rose upward for around 2 miles. this lead us onto a network of public footpaths that gave fine views of the countryside and coastline.
after a while the paths descend first gently and then steeply as we join a country lane that leads us back into Dawlish, admiring the dramatic scenery as we return to the town centre via Dawlish Water and on to our cafe stop in town.
