And how did no less than ten intrepid Western Midlands walk leaders begin the month of October?
Recovered from last year's highest peak in the County, with eyes set on next year's AOG, we were on a road test. Our objective? Evaluating the University of Warwick's rather impressive facilities for 2026.. Accompanied by Martin, our joint GC and Ben, new National Events Manager we, with fellow Board members, checked out rooms (some staying overnight), parking, and all-important social spaces. What was the buzz like? Yes, all-important meals featured too...indeed no dessert was left untouched in our quest for authentication.
Adjoining woodland lakes and footpaths, lying south of historic Coventry, we will meet next year in a high-quality and exceptionally well-located Campus. Alumni include Germaine Greer, Frank Skinner, Simon Mayo, Sting – and Boris Johnson's wife Carrie.
And, what of those all-important walks?
Events are being planned to suit all tastes and capabilities. This Bear and Ragged Staff County has historic and beautiful Kenilworth along with Georgian Leamington Spa within easy reach, with Coombe and Stoneleigh Abbeys lie nearby. Of course Warwickshire has to mean the swans and theatres of Shakespeare's Stratford upon Avon, plus Compton Verney's cutting-edge Art Gallery, set in a Country Mansion surrounded by parkland. Also, the Warwickshire Ring which includes the Stairway to Heaven, on the Grand Union Canal's Hatton Locks.
Dates are Friday 24th July to Monday 27th July, 2026. So, put it in your new Diaries!
