This delightful circular walk from Marden to Horsmonden explores some of the finest countryside in the Kent Weald. Leaving Marden, the route soon leads into quiet lanes, open fields and gently rolling farmland, with wide views across the lush green landscape. Along the way, we will see traditional oast houses, timber-framed farm buildings and old orchards, reminders of Kent’s long association with hop-growing and fruit farming.

As the walk approaches Horsmonden, the countryside becomes particularly attractive, with fields, woodland, ponds and orchards surrounding the village. Horsmonden has a fascinating industrial past: during the seventeenth century it was an important centre for iron and gun-making, while its hop gardens once attracted thousands of seasonal workers. The former railway, known as the Hop Pickers’ Line, also passed through the village, linking it with Paddock Wood and other Wealden communities.

The return journey crosses more peaceful fields and country lanes, offering changing views of the High Weald, before arriving back towards Marden. It is a walk full of history, wildlife and classic Kent scenery.
