The Isle of Colonsay

The Isle of Colonsay

This trip continues our exploration of Scottish Islands that we have been doing over the last few years.  Colonsay is in the Inner Hebrides off Jura and Islay.  It is a rocky island, but the highest point rises to just 143m at Carnan Eoin.  There is good hill and coastal walking and stunning beaches, which we now expect on these trips, plus we could walk over to the island of Oronsay and its ruined priory via a tidal channel if the tides allow.

Colonsay House and its gardens are in the centre of the island and Colonsay Bunkhouse is just on the edge of the grounds.  The walled garden is open to the public at no charge.  We will stay on the island using the Colonsay Bunkhouse Lodge for three nights from Friday 23rd August to Monday 26th August.

Bicycles can be hired on the island to explore the road network if desired, or you might want to bring your own cycle across on the ferry.
