Tanworth in Arden and the Umberslade Estate
An enjoyable shorter winter walk incorporating the picturesque village of Tanworth-in-Arden and the Umberslade Estate. Starting off in Danzey Station (Spoiler alert - no trains on a Sunday), the walk skirts around the edge of Mockley Wood - a reminder of the old Shakespeare Forest of Arden.
Across fields, the walk proceeds to the village of Tanworth-in-Arden and the t3/14 century church of St Mary Magdalene where the singer songwriter Nick Drake is buried. There will be a chance to look inside the church before another 15 minute walk to the Umberslade Estate with a fabulous lunch stop at the Expresso Farm Café (think rustic cotemporary with very nice toilets). Don't worry if you brought your own lunch - there are benches on the estate.
After lunch, the walk continues up a good path towards Umberslade Hall with superb views of the surrounding countryside. Turning left at Umberslade Hall into a quiet country line, the walk re-enters open fields passing Diary House Farm and Bickers Court Farm before reaching Danzey Green Village and the station.
6.5 miles is the maximum distance of the walk but there is an option of shortening it by half a mile.
