Swinley Forest and Bracknell Forest loop.
Starting from Englemere pond we cross over a busy section of road with hump back bridge. This section is quite tricky and needs care and attention. After is a figure eight walk through Swinley and Bracknell forest along well maintained paths with some muddy areas in places. Swinley forest has some beautiful ancient trees and a lovely stand of elms and ancient twisted oaks. There is a bit of modern archaeology with many ice houses or war time facilities overgrown in the trees. This is a nice section through varied woodlands and exits across a road and over a crossing past Coral reef swimming pool and in to Bracknell forest. This huge section of woodland has lots of attractions for those that are interested with a lookout centre and cafe and toilets, National mountain biking trails and Go Ape. We will however be bypassing all this and crossing into the the woodland sections and a few nice paths through varied terrain and stopping for lunch at Mill pond where there are usually a few places to sit but no benches only logs or on the ground so bring along something to sit on. After a packed lunch break the terrain gets more hilly and this section of the walk through the wooded sections has some reasonably steep hills along well maintained paths. We then loop back across the crossing and enter Swinley forest again to see a different part of the wood with a very different feel.
This is a semi urban walk but is something a bit different and those that have pre walked have enjoyed the peace and quiet of the deeper forest. There is a nearby pub called the Royal Foresters that does food and good beer and has quite a good reputation although I have not been in there for a very long time.
