Spring Colour Visit to Lambeth Palace Gardens and Tower
The gardens at Lambeth Palace have been in existence since the 12th century and are the oldest continuously cultivated gardens in London.
Robert Finlay is a volunteer gardener there and has led several previous visits to these fascinating gardens. The 11-acre site is an enigma behind its high walls, revealing its secrets only after passing through the entrance gate. It is an inspirational and meditative place against the backdrop of Lambeth Palace, secluded from the bustle of Central London. The gardens change greatly with the seasons, and spring promises colourful bulbs and dramatic growth in the extensive formal and informal areas. Of particular interest is the massive 450 year old white fig given to the Archbishop Pole, the last Roman Catholic Archbishop of Canterbury.
In addition the medieval Lambeth Palace tower will be open, unless the weather is inclement. The views should make a visit well worthwhile. A maximum number of 8 people at any time can visit the tower and we will assemble a GOC contingent if there is enough interest.
