Southern Upland Way & River Tweed Circular
The route goes south west from Galashields using the Southern Upland Way across grassy hills before dropping to the River Tweed. The return route leaves the riverside path to climb Gala Hill before returning to town via woodland. The paths are likely to be very muddy in mid-winter. Good boots, waterproof jacket & trousers and layers of warm clothes are essential. Surfaces range from woodland paths, open hillside with cattle & sheep and riverside path and minor roads and there are stiles to cross. To return to Gala before dark the pace will need to be fairly brisk.
