A scenic and enjoyable walk with few inclines walking on mainly good tracks, paths and minor roads across small woods and fields to the small attractive hamlet of Hamble le Rice that gives its name to the River Hamble. After a relaxed picnic stop with various options of sightseeing and refreshments, we take the Pink Ferry across the Estuary (approx £3). We continue our return walk on the path all along the River with Bird watching protected nature reserves (SSSI) and mud flats on our right and on our left we admire the yachts (measured in thousands more than hundreds - though we didn't count them!) as it is a major yachting centre. We finally reach Bursledon where there is the option of retiring to the charming riverside Jolly Sailor Pub which was a central feature of the TV series Howards Way in the 1980's
