Begin at the quiet Church of St Mary the Virgin, Fawsley, set within Fawsley Park. Inside, alabaster tombs commemorate the Knightley family—most notably Sir Richard Knightley, a Puritan sympathiser.
Through Fawsley Park, follow paths through open parkland. Look for views of Fawsley Hall between the trees. In November, the air is damp, the ground soft with leaves.
Climb gently to the hilltop village of Preston Capes. Stone cottages line the road. Pause to look back across the estate. At the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Lord St John of Fawsley—cabinet minister under Margaret Thatcher and peer—rests with his friend Adrian Stanford.
Head north-east. Everdon’s winding lanes and golden stone give way to thick hedgerows and autumn woods.
Turn south. Field paths cut through farmland and return to Fawsley Park. The church rises ahead once more.
