5 mile linear walk on the outskirts of Plymouth. Return by bus. Our route is across the attractive Saltram estate then up over the ridge and down into historic Plympton St Maurice where there is much of interest to see. Amongst the many fine buildings are the Guildhall built in 1688 and the grammar school (attended by Sir Joshua Reynolds). We will explore the remains of the Norman motte and bailey castle. The walk ends in the neighbouring parish of Plympton St Mary. Bring cash for the short bus journey back to the start. Bring a packed lunch. Afterwards refreshments are offered at Mike's house nearby.
