Lydford
Lydford, nestling on the western edge of Dartmoor, is the location for this interesting figure of eight walk in and around the village. Six miles in total, each loop is roughly equal in length and can be tackled separately if desired. First loop begins with a steady climb onto Dartmoor then a level path across open gassy moorland with fine views of the surrounding tors before descending back to the village for our lunch stop. Second loop crosses Fernworthy Down and returns along part of the 'Granite Way' trail along a former railway line. Bring a packed lunch to eat in the grounds of the impressive Lydford castle. There will be an opportunity to visit the lovely little church next to the castle. Afterwards refreshments at good cafe nearby.
