Lustleigh Cleave is a steep sided valley which has been carved by the River Bovey. The valley is covered in mixed woodland and there should be bluebells and other wildflowers to see.
The walk will emerge on to more open country at Sharpitor and Hunter’s Tor. There are spectacular views across Dartmoor; and Moretonhampstead, Haytor and the sea at Teignmouth can all be seen on a clear day. We shall walk through an iron age hillfort although there is not much evidence left.
This is a harder ten mile walk which includes some steep climbs and paths which are uneven underfoot. There is also a river crossing over a ‘Boulder Bridge’, and some steps to climb.
A softer side of Devon can also be seen in some pretty thatched cottages and lush lanes and farmland.
Walking boots are recommended due to the nature of the paths.
Likely walk duration 6 hours.
