London midweek: The Parkland Walk: Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace
The Parkland Walk is the longest linear nature reserve in London, and follows the former railway line connecting Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace that opened in 1873. GOC has have covered parts of it several times before, but this time we are following its whole length.
We will begin by heading north through Finsbury Park before joining the first part of the nature trail which will take us to Highgate. From there, we will head through Queens Wood, emerging on Muswell Hill Road. After crossing the road, we will turn northbound, following the track that follows the edge of Highgate Wood, where there are several benches that we can use for an informal lunch stop. When we reach the northern edge of the wood, we will join the second part of the nature trail which climbs steadily north-east to bring us into Alexandra Park. We will then continue in the same direction to pass directly in front of Alexandra Palace. If the weather is good, we will have spectacular views over North London. Finally, we will swing right-handed down South Terrace until we reach Alexandra Palace Station, where the walk will end
