A moderate walk just on the Shropshire side of the Welsh border. We take in the SSSI reserves of Llanymynech Rocks and Llynclys Common. Starting with a steady ascent along quiet country lanes, we will make our way through woodland and meadows to reach the top of the former limestone quarry with spectacular views of the Welsh hills and Shropshire Plain. We will then descend (carefully) to the quarry bottom and beyond to the Montgomery canal, taking in the numerous interesting architectural features of the abandoned limeworks.
The views on this walk are outstanding at any time of year, as well as the industrial heritage, but particularly so in the Spring (hence the timing of this walk) when the wild orchids are in flower.
