JOGLE Day 32 St Boswells to Morebattle
From St Boswells we continue to follow St Cuthbert's Way back on river bank around the golf course emerging in Maxton. A straight unclassified round takes to a long stretch on Dere Street, a Roman road. We walk around 3 sides of the delightful estate of Monteviot House to cross a river bridge and back on ourselves on the banks of the river Teviot. Then uphill back on Roman road.
We turn left near the top of the hill to walk a flat tree lined ridge before decending to a river crossing with a steep ascent the other side
The path then zig zags edges of fields and woods to emerge at the fortress of Cessford Castle built at the time of the Reivers, when the border of Scotland and England was in flux.
There is a longish section of a windy lane and B6401 that takes us into Morebattle
