Henley-In-Arden is a small town in Shakespeare country - his mother, Mary Arden,  lived on a farm a few miles away, and the Arden part of the name is taken from that prominent family. It grew up in medieval times and its mile long High Street has original buildings mixed amongst the pubs, shops, restaurants,  black and white  houses and of course the famous Ice Cream parlour. Note - the parlour prefers cash payments, and a £5 minimum credit card transaction.

The walk will start in the car park at the north end of Henley and for six miles  we will meander in the countryside around Henley - mostly flat, but with one steep hill - The Mount -  just outside the town to see the far reaching views - weather permitting. Through fields, a couple of short distances along country roads, a couple of short distances along major -  roads luckily on pavements, a mile or so along the towpath of the Stratford upon Avon canal, and then more fields alongside the River Alne; finally ending the guided part of the walk at the south end of Henley.  This will enable members to saunter at their own pace, visit a pub, visit the churches or at the very least have an ice cream !
