  • TerrainMainly good footpaths, tracks and some minor roads. Some ascents but not too long or steep. Several awkward stiles.

The is a very pleasant moderate circular walk through the Surrey Hills, an Area of Natural Beauty, with the advantage of not having very steep or long ascents. Of course some climbs are unavoidable in such countryside - the walk is not flat!  Although there are some features of interest, the main attraction is mile after mile of peaceful attractive countryside and lovely views. The route basically forms a triangle. First of all it we proceed east along a bridal way which also was a national cycle route to the north of the Tillingbourne Valley. The route then turns southwards, passing a church at Wotton and then runs for some miles through the extensive Wotton estate. After crossing the A25 it ascends again and then turns to the south west towards the Abingers. Here we will pass the Abinger Hatch pub - a possible stop for a drink - and another church, St James, before gradually descending to the village of Gomshall with more fine views with its pleasant riverside pub, The Compasses. (A short cut can be taken avoiding the village directly to Gomshall station in case a train is due).
