Exploring I K BRUNELS 1838 GWR Bridge, Maidenhead, Berkshire

Event Details

General information

A figure of eight walk of about 8 miles, Partly along the footpaths & towpath of the River Thames & Jubilee Way, as it passes through Maidenhead. The centre of our attention is the 1838 GWR bridge which is still recorded as the widest - flattest bridge constructed in the world. We pass (See photo) of the "Red Light District" accommodation for serving officers in the premises opposite. Also discovered that a famous artist painted the bridge. There will be a prize (a BIG wet smudgy kiss from ME - Bet nobody identifies the artist) for who can identify the artist & the name of the painting - no cheating on Google.....

Lunch will be at "The Thames Riviera Hotel" Bridge Rd, Maidenhead, Berks SatNav SL6 8DW (which contrary to its grand title is quite modest). Situated next to the main road bridge. Non walkers are welcome to join us.
