  • Approx Distance 5 - 6 Miles
  • TerrainThe entire walk is on well made gravel forest tracks with a short road section. There is a long steep climb and a long descent. I would regard it as a moderate walk ( with a climb) but the Woodland Trust calls it a strenuous walk ( due to the climb ) hence I will call it a difficult walk.

The walk is entirely within woodland. We shall follow the River Teign between Fingle Bridge and Clifford Bridge. We shall climb up to Wooston Hill fort ( 200 metres above sea level ) which was constructed in the Iron Age between 700BC and 42 AD. It is one of 3 hill forts in the area. It’s purpose is a bit mysterious but one theory is it was used as an enclosure for animals. From here there are good views to the North and East and up the Teign Gorge. We will then descend back into the woods and return to Fingle Bridge.
There are toilets at Fingle Bridge (closed for the Winter at the time of the recce)
The Inn at Fingle Bridge does hot drinks, cakes and cream teas and may be a good post walk refreshment stop ( closed at the time of the recce)
