Cherhill White Horse

Event Details

This 7 mile upland walk across the Wiltshire downs pays a visit to the Cherhill White Horse and the Landsdowne monument.

At least 13 horse figures were known to have been carved into the chalk downs of Wiltshire and of the 8 that are still visible, Cherhill is believed to be the second oldest. Cut in 1780 under the direction of a Dr. Alsop from nearby Calne, the design may have been influenced by the artist George Stubbs, a friend of Dr. Alsop.

On a fine day, this walk offers spectacular views.
