Borth to Aberystwyth, Wales Coastal Path
This linear walk along the Wales Coast Path includes seeing Borth’s 4500 year old sunken forest (tides have been checked!). Cantre’r Gwaelod as a legendary ancient sunken kingdom thought to have occupied a tract of fertile land that occupied what is now Cardigan Bay. The legend can be read about here.
This stretch of the coastal path is one of my favourite stretches in Ceredigion. The first half feels very remote and is more challenging with climbs and descents. This leads us to Wallog where we can see the geological oddity that is Sarn Wallog - looks like a stone causeway to the ancient kingdom of Cantre'r Gwaelod. The second half of the walk is less undulating and goes along Clarach beach, where there is an icecream or tea/coffee opportunity at the caravan site. We take a final gentle climb up to Constitution Hill where we are welcomed with a panoramic view along Aberystwyth and its promenade.
After walking down Constitution Hill to the prom, we can stop for lunch at the Glengower pub (approx 1.30pm). There is a follow-on social in Aberystwyth: AberFest, a real ale and real cider beer festival, and there is the option of exploring some of these hostelries as part of a social. To book on this social please visit its event page.
