This is a moderate to difficult 8 mile walk over the North Wessex Downs national landscape. The walk starts at Aldbourne, and heads south with a long steady climb to the top of the downs and over further hills, with views, and woods to reach Ramsbury for lunch.

We can either picnic in the churchard grounds if weather permits, or others may prefer to rest at the nearby pub (The Bell) in the village of Ramsbury. There is a local microbrewery.

After Ramsbury the walk heads north to return to Aldbourne through woods, gentle hills with views, past thatched cottages.    This walk can have a lot of nettles along a 1km section (avoidable if you climb a fence) , so long trousers and long sleeves are advised, and can  be muddy after wet weather. There are some stiles, and some overgrown parts so a stick can be handy. At the end of the walk, the Crown pub at Aldbourne is a welcome rest stop for those in need!. If there has been a lot of rain in the weeks before the walk, then good waterproof boots might be needed if the stream that we must cross (on a short wooden bridge) is in spate - shallow water (couple of inches) might be present for a few meters before/after the wooden-bridge.
