A waterside ramble from Tamworth Station to Hopwas
Starting at Tamworth Station, this gentle 7.5 mile walk offers a blend of history, wildlife and open countryside. We begin with the striking Tamworth Castle, a beautifully preserved Norman motte-and-bailey fortress. From here, the route leads into the peaceful Tameside Local Nature Reserve, where woodland paths and wetlands provide a haven for birds and wildlife.
Continuing onward, we reach the Tame Aqueduct, carrying the Coventry Canal high above the Tame. A canalside picnic near the pretty hamlet of Hopwas marls the midpoint of the walk.
The final stretch meanders alongside the River Tame, across wide, open meadows. With flat terrain throughout, and only one low stile, this walk is perfect for all abilities seeking a day out that starts at a major railway station.
