A spring circuit from Sandling
This walk is through a diverse mix of environments, woodland, downland, farmland, villages and also some semi-rural parts.
We start off loosely following the route of the abandoned Sandling to Hythe railway, past Saltwood to the outskirts of Hythe. Some of the remains of the old railway are clearly visible along the way.
From the site of the former Hythe Station there is then an uphill slog north across a golf course, past Dibgate military camp and eventually across the M20/A20 corridor to Peene. We will stop for lunch somewhere around Peene.
Next is a flat section this time along the abandoned Elham Valley Railway towards Etchinghill followed by a short but steep climb up to the top of the North Downs with nice views south towards the coast. We return to Sandling via the Elham Valley Way.
