  • TerrainField paths and tracks, short sections of road. Two hills, one up, one down. May be some mud if wet.

A circular walk from Saltford taking in Swineford, North Stoke, Kelston Round Hill (KRH) and the western approach to Newbridge.

Across fields, through spinneys, visiting two small hamlets early on. The second half of the walk takes in the Cotswold Way (CW) towards Bath and then the River Avon Trail (RAT) back to Saltford.

The route is predominantly farm tracks, bridleways, woodland trails and across open fields on well-marked paths. There are several short linking sections of quiet country lane and one crossing of the A431.

There are gates aplenty and three barred stiles that most small/medium dogs can probably negotiate although dogs and well-behaved owners will need to be kept on a short lead as there could be livestock in some of the fields.

The first half of the walk is predominantly uphill, with one short ascent early on, and then a gentle climb up to KRH. The second half follows the CW downhill to the river and the flat along the RAT.

STOP PRESS update 29 May

Should the weather prove awkward (fire, flood, pestilence, heatwave) or anyone feels they've overdone it, the last two miles can be skipped by using the excellent X39 Bath-Bristol bus service from Newbridge to Saltford.
