Ally Pally – Highgate – Hampstead Heath Circular
A circular walk of about 9 miles, starting and finishing at Alexandra Palace station.
This walk is a re-pilot of a popular route for the London & Hertfordshire GOC groups, to optimise it for the AOG2027. The objective is to showcase London's green and pleasant suburbs to GOC members who might have little chance to see them.
The walk absorbs the interesting and intriguing elements of Highgate. Elements include a sniff at George Michael's former house, Highgate Cemetery (the final resting place of a few fair famous folk, Hampstead Heath, including the bathing ponds (a bit chilly in November!), Kenwood House, The Bishops Avenue (London's answer to New York's "Billionaire's Row"), and stunning views from the elevation at Alexandra Palace towards the east and south.
Bring packed lunch, plenty of water and something to sit on. There are opportunities to buy food and drink en route.
Route is mainly exposed. Wear sunscreen and/or windproofs.
Wear sturdy trainers. Most of the route is on firm ground, including pavement and well-worn tracks on parkland. Expect mud if it has rained.
The start point is a railway station.
Optional pub stop, with food, at end of walk.
