Wood Ford Halse (Near Daventry)
Milton Keynes & Bucks GOC invite you to join them in Northampton shire countryside for a moderate walk through varied landscapes - farms, small villages, an area soaked in former railway history. Today it is hard to imagine just how busy the area was in the 40's & 50's , with The Great Central line running through from London Marleybone to Nottingham Victoria. The land where railway passed through has been largely repurposed for farmland, Some has been levelled and planted for community benefits, using Sycamore and Corsican Pine. The tunnel (Catesby Tunnel) is now used to test the aero-dynamics of road and race cars! We see two of the 5 air shafts for the tunnel on our walk. (Interesting fact - 30.million Staffordshire Blue bricks were used in the construction of the tunnel. )
At Charwelton, we see the old Packhorse Bridge - another throwback to olden times, and another former mode of transport. Our walk takes us on a short stretch of the long distance Jurassic Way.
After the walk we will adjourn to a cafe or pub local to the finish. It would be great to have you come along and experience this peaceful part of Northants.
