The Route & Highlights

Our journey begins just outside Fairwarp, the only village nestled entirely within the 6,500-acre forest boundaries. As we climb through the heathland and ancient woodland, you’ll enjoy panoramic views stretching across the South Downs and the High Weald.

Along the way, walk leaders Adam and Chris will share the forest’s eclectic history:

  • Literary Roots: Explore the landscape that inspired A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh.
  • Wartime Secrets: Discover why this peaceful forest was a vital site for D-Day transmissions.
  • The Underground: Learn about the hidden Cold War nuclear bunker tucked away in the woods.

The walk concludes with a gentle descent past the Duddleswell tea rooms and down Oldlands Hill, leading us back to the village for the main event.

The Post-Walk BBQ

After the hike, Adam and Chris are once again hosting a complimentary BBQ for all attendees!

  • Provided: Burgers, Pasta, Salad & Chips
  • Contributions: While the main food is provided, any contributions of cake or drinks will be very welcome.
  • Self-Catering: Please bring your own snacks and water for the trail. If you have specific dietary requirements or aren't staying for the BBQ, please bring a packed lunch.
  • The Pool: We are planning for the pool to be open! Please note that swimwear is required. This is subject to change should a hosepipe ban be announced later this summer. To keep the water crystal clear, we kindly ask that anyone wishing to swim have a quick hose down before entering to remove sun cream, sweat, and dust from the walk.

 Essential Details

  • Terrain & Kit: Expect uneven forest paths. Please wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing (and don't forget your swimwear just in case!).
