A walk to Dumyat from the university campus

This is an obvious hill walk to do directly from the university campus and there is no need for any car transport.  For this reason we intend to run this walk on both the Saturday and the Sunday of the AOG.

Dumyat (pronounced ‘Dum-eye-at’), is a popular hill due to its views over the Forth Valley. Dumyat sits at the western end of The Ochil Hills above Stirling and is easily visible from the university. The name Dumyat comes from dun (or fort) of the Myaetae, the fort of a Pictish tribe that once dominated the area.

10 Miles (16km) 400m assent, 400m decent

Surfaces; woods, open hillside and a short section on country road. There are sections with livestock where dogs must be kept on a lead. The country road is quiet but narrow. We may need to get off the road to let a car pass.

The route has a couple of  steep climbs and descents, is rough in parts and it could be muddy in sections. Good boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, some layers of warm clothing may be required, depending on the weather.   The route can be done in a clockwise or anticlockwise direction at the discretion of the walk leader.
