14 members met at the car park of Home Farm, Tarrant Gunville, to return there 5 hours later for lots of tea, cream teas and cakes.
The first part of walk followed the Jubilee Trail to the boundary of Eastbury, once the third largest mansion after Blenheim and Castle Howard. It had taken 20 years to build, lived in for 20 years, empty for 20 years and then blown up, only the servants quarters remaining.
Footpaths, via Chettle Long Barrow, then led us to the fascinating village of Chettle with its beautiful Queen Anne house which we could view easily from its haha.
Elevenses were taken on top of another long barrow adorned with wild flowers.
A path kindly cut by a farmer through his wheat crop led us to a track to the largest long barrow in Dorset, Pimperne Long Barrow, for lunch.
A pleasant grass track and ancient green lanes then led us to our welcome afternoon tea and cakes.
