
Solent and Dorset - 2023 IOW Long Weekend away
Following the successful 2022 weekend away (mainly Solent/Dorset Groups) we are revisiting the Isle of Wight to explore the southern and eastern side of the island. We anticipate attendees will attend all the walks below meaning there is no need to sign up to individual walks. Should anyone wish to attend just one walk (ie. Saturday and/or Sunday) please contact the group leader who will give any further information or help required. There are 4 daily walks planned :
Friday 13th Oct Godshill - 5.0 miles Inland Fields, Woods and Downland (leader Ian Martin). Start Time 12.00 (Suggest catch 09.00 Ferry Southampton to Cowes). Meet Godshill Free Car Park PO38 3JD or W3W viewer.aviators.pans - opposite The Griffin Inn which serves full english breakfast from 09.00 to 11.00. Timings allow for breakfast to be taken before the walk. We are planning to eat out in the evening if we can find a suitable hostelry - depends on numbers
Saturday 14th Oct Brighstone - 8.6 miles Coastal, Downland and Woods (leader Bernardo Chapero) Start time 11.00. Meet in Brook Chine Car Park (NT Free or £7 for 4 hours) PO30 4HA or W3W flagpole.butternut.havens - We plan to have a group microwave indian/chinese meal and drinks in the evening back at our accomodation in the holiday park
Sunday 15th Oct Blackgang Chine and St Catherine's Point - 6.0 miles Coastal and Downland (leader Ian Martin). Start Time 10.00. Meet in Blackgang Chine Free Car Park PO38 2JB or W3W stump.bead.listed - We plan to have a late Sunday Lunch if we can find a suitable hostelry - depending on numbers
Monday 16th Oct Bembridge & Culver Down - 5.6 miles Coastal & Downland (leader Stephen Crichard). Start Time 10.00. Meet in Bembridge Car Park at Fishermans Walk (Car Park Fee payable) PO35 5T or W3W junction.training.starfish - An after walk drink is planned before ferry departure
Accomodation : Suggested accomodation is Park Dean Resorts Nodes Point near Bembridge. There are a variety of Chalet/Caravans to rent. The walk leader has booked the Northwood type Caravan sleeping 4 at a cost of £229. There are several other slightly cheaper options. Attendees are obviously free to choose alternative accomodation.
Ferry : Suggested Ferry is Red Funnel Southampton to East Cowes. Outward Fri 13th Oct at 09.00 Return Mon 16th Oct at 15.30 (timings allow for travellers to have breakfast in Godshill before the first walk and a group drink at the end of the last walk). Cost of car ferry to include up to 5 occupants was £134.25 (age over 60). Again there are many alternatives re routes and timings.
Information : Attendees are responsible for booking their own ferry crossings and accomodation with the operators and it is suggested that they form themselfs into small groups to keep costs down. If help or more information is required please contact the group leader who will be happy to help.
Based on costs above a group of 4 will pay £91 and a group of 3 will pay £121
