Seven Sisters coastal walk: Seaford to Eastbourne
Paul Conway will lead us today along this classic cliff-top walk – one of the finest coastal walks in England. It affords stunning and famous views of the white cliffs of the Seven Sisters, and the renowned Beachy Head, before ending in the elegant seafront town of Eastbourne. The walk offers several opportunities for a dip in the sea, although it is a long walk and stops will be at the discretion of the walk leader.
Please note that this is a tougher walk than usual in terms of length and ascent. Apart from the section around Cuckmere Haven and the finish along the Eastbourne seafront, the route ascends and descends a continuous series of hills, which form the 'Seven Sisters' themselves, Beachy Head and other cliffs.
Please note that there are very few opportunities to leave this walk early and you should be prepared for a long and committing day. It would be possible to leave the walk in the vicinity of Birling Gap. One option would be to leave the walk just before Birling Gap and follow a bridleway north to reach the A259 at East Dean; this village is served by the frequent Brighton to Eastbourne bus service. Alternatively, a taxi would need to be called at Birling Gap.
This walk is arranged by GOC London, but members of GOC Sussex and other GOC groups are very welcome to attend. Car drivers should please note the linear nature of the walk.
