Winchcombe circular including Hailes Abbey and Sudley Castle.
See comment below, now changed to 5mile walk.
This 8.5 moderate mile walk takes in parts of the Cotswolds Way, Campden Lane a former drovers path and the Wardens Way.
We start by crossing open fields accompanied by whistles from the steam railway to visit the remains of Hailes Abbey and the tiny parish church with its medieval wall paintings.
We then commence the long steady ascent on the edge of woodland getting great views of Bredon Hill, the Malverns, the Clee Hills and even the distant Black Mountains if its a clear day.
We continue via The Sling and Crab Bottom along wide easy lanes.
After a short ascent and lunch we commence our long steady descent and return to the start point via Sudley Castle.
The walk includes open fields and bridleways which can be muddy.
There are a few stiles on this walk.
Bring a packed lunch.
Refreshments at the end of the walk back in Winchcombe.
