A 7 mile walk from Marple exploring the 200 year legacy of Samuel Oldknow (1756 - 1828), the bachelor entrepreneur of the early industrial revolution with remarkable business acumen, an innovator in a wider context and the driving force in the development of fine cotton manufacture in the Stockport and Marple areas.
Our route includes the 16 Marple Locks & Aqueduct of the Peak Forest Canal, remains of the Gothic Lime Kilns, the Roman Lakes, Bottoms Hall apprentices' accommodation and the recently excavated remains of Mellor Mill.
Equipment: walking boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, warm clothing, Trekking pole(s) recommended if normally used.
