West Kent – Sevenoaks Weald – 7th April, 2024.

Mud, mud, glorious mud !

A good turn-out of 12 guys, today's walk was from Sevenoaks Weald across fields with wide views south across the Weald and back to the Greensand ridge.  Bluebells starting to show, lambs bleating, spring is here at last.  The walk took us on to the Bore Place estate, near Chiddingstone, where we stopped for lunch at the Big Chair, overlooking Bough Beech Reservoir.

For the history buffs, Bore Place (also Boar Place) was the country seat of the manor of Milbroke in Kent. The manor house was constructed in around 1745. It was originally named after the Bore family who owned the estate in the reign of Henry III. It is now home to The Commonwork Trust, a charity that was set up by Neil and Jenifer Wates in 1976. Set in 500 acres of beautiful countryside, the estate is home to the charity which is focused on regenerative farming and land management whilst supporting people to live happy, fulfilling, and sustainable lives. It works to inspire people to connect with each other and with the Earth while taking responsibility for our shared future.

A blustery walk all day long, with occasional sunny intervals, but it was so good to get out.

Back at the start in Sevenoaks Weald, a welcome drink at the Windmill for all 12 of us. Good to see everyone enjoying themselves today and thanks especially to Nic Percival for leading. An excellent walk.....until next month and, hopefully, less mud
